Do's and Don'ts

Indonesia is a cultural country. So, you need to meet our traditional routine and its best for you if you know some of our traditions. Like this,




  • Hand Shaking
    • Indonesia have the largest Muslim population in the world. Even tough men and women do hand shaking, but usually a Muslim women did introduced herself by smiling, clasping their hands , but no contact between men and women.
  • Take off your shoes
    • You have to take off your shoes or sandals when you entering house, mosque, and  etc.
  • Call before come
    • Its considered for you to make a call before you visit someone's house. If you doing an unannounced visit, make sure that you don't interrupt the house owner.
  • Drinks
    • When you do a visit to a house, usually the house owner will offered drinks. It's a polite if you accept.
  • Use your right hands
    • When you eat, accepting, giving, or pointing something, you need to use your right hand. When you pointing something, please use your right hand thumb and fold the remaining fingers to be more polite and don't ever use your index finger because it's for giving order to someone.
  • Photographs
    • You may take a picture inside someone's house with the permission of the owner especially if you want to take a picture of house interior
  • Alcoholics and Porks
    • 90% of Indonesian are Muslim, so if you offered pork or alcoholic , they will not consumed that
  • Toast!
    • The tradition of proposing a toast to honor someone is generally unknown here.
